It is beyond my comprehension that the Republican party has moved so far to the right that it condones the malicious and violent attacks on its Congressional colleagues by the so-called Tea Party and other possibly certifiable right wing nuts.
I have lived and fought through Civil Rights and the Vietnam war and never seen anything like this. Sarah Palin and a hit list with gun sights, please. This nation now seems more divided than it did over the Vietnam war and over Civil Rights and over what? Providing health care?
It is increasingly clear that we live in a national of sheep, followers of patently stupid followers of talk show demigods. Death threats on Congressman? Fuel lines cut? Bricks through windows? Calling Rep. Clyburn the “N” word?
This is just beyond my comprehension and I am becoming increasingly embarrassed to be an American. There’s no fight left in me as it is impossible to argue intellectually with these “people.”
Normally I would hope that at least college students would take a stand on this, but alas, they seem far too interested in booze and sex and less on the wrong direction of the nuts out there.
I have, in fact, become fearful for the safety of our government officials. At the same time, I hope Congress can move forward swiftly on other important issues of the day: Financial Regulation Reform and Jobs.
