Violence on TV and in the Movies

While working, I listen constantly to either XM or iTunes radio, most frequently jazz, blues, folk and the Sinatra “pop” stations. Just now I heard “True Love” by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly from High Society (the remake of The Philadelphia Story).

It occurred to me what a wonderful movie (I don’t watch “films”) the remake was, as well, of course as the original, though I did prefer the later version. More than that, I thought how great these older movies are: They left so much to the imagination, which I think is important.

I used love “manly” movies, filled with violence and now, well, not so much. For that matter, I find it hard to watch the CSI television shows. I’m not sure what the world’s coming to when audiences apparently enjoy autopsies.  I’m not against violence in movies and television by any stretch of the imagination. I suppose, however, I’ve reached a point at which I simply don’t see a need to so much reality.

And, yes, I do like romantic comedies, almost any of them, as they seem to have dialogue I would have like to have used myself. No matter how bad some may be, there always seems to be a few great lines.

I think we need that today…a few great lines to make us smile.
