that the first major action President Obama took, well major action, was to announce the closing of Guantanamo. Certainly a sinecure to the so-called “Progressive” wing of the party, but I would have hoped for a major announcement or even fiat relating to the economy. At this point, my guess would be that most Americans don’t give a damn about Guantanamo; and perhaps rightfully so, with our economy slipping even deeper in the abyss.
On the other hand, why should we expect any change in Washington…where everyone still gets paid, government jobs are secure and the ring around the Beltway enures the inhabitants to the suffering of those who elected them.
